Garden parties began as a food security & solidarity movement among people who recognized that our siloed and divided society is in big trouble if we don’t heal people and restore the true golden rule of law.
The Garden Parties have brought people together in these very interesting of times through which we are living. People of the garden parties have a collective awareness that perhaps Canada has actually outgrown the status quo? Even our own Local Government Representatives can be quoted as saying “we all know the system is broken”. Every day one can witness institutions falling short in the lives of real people. Garden parties have established new relations and re-kindled old relations. Relations to culture, relatives, friends, the land and ultimately one-another. The garden parties have built Trust and are a demonstration of a lightness of spirit.
Here are a few super short stories :
“Hard to believe garden parties began with a simple seed-exchange cupboard…"
“A fella moved to town, he is a nurse… well he WAS a licensed nurse. He is now transitioning out of the public health care system. Anyhow, he was new to town and immediately grasped the importance of solidarity gardening for networking health and personal growth. He got familiar with garden party network, came to understand the importance of demonstration gardening and he has been of incredible service in times of need”
“A woman was injured this spring, she couldn’t do the gardening with us that she had anticipated. Instead she has contributed her wisdom and cheer leadership to others and has helped with knowledge of preserving food and sharing the power of the network. She was also able to do some care taking while others were away.”
"A new to the region livestock ranch was in dire need of labor during hay season. The garden party network was able to link them with people to get the hay in for the livestock”.
“A family had an unruly patch of garden that needed work. People in the garden parties came out to help, they each went home with strawberry plants, flowers and herbs for their own gardens. The groups were able to discuss far reaching topics of community from child-rearing, educational paradigms and the future for children. It takes a Village!”
“A well established farm needed some labor in the early season planting seedlings. The garden party people got the seedlings planted and reciprocal food exchange”
“A woman who lived through the Eastern European food-stamps era found herself with an abundance of south facing irrigable land, she networked into the garden parties and is establishing a path towards turning the land into another neighbourhood demonstration garden”
“A new family farm needed early season labor, first the garden party network helped them get seedlings established in exchange for food, then the food re-entered the network for processing and they got honey. The processed food will then re-enter the network. That is three times the power of the network has been leveraged to create a more defined, refined and valuable product.”
