Where did our Life Affirming Institutions Go?
Greetings Wildflower!
For thousands of years the concept that we are "servants of God” has gone toe to toe with the concept that humans “are God-like” with their free will. Both concepts exist, both are real, even if one or the other seems Absurd to you. Generally, it is difficult for a mind to hold two seemingly opposed ideas and still function. This is called cognitive dissonance, and overcoming it - being able to hold two seemingly contradictory ideas in the mind simultaneously - is the test of a first rate intelligence. When the cognitive dissonance (of either an individual or a society) reaches a certain pain threshold, the mind must reach “Peace” in order to survive.
Minds Perplexed
In a state of cognitive dissonance a mind will either shrink to reject one of the two concepts or it will grow to accept and hold both simultaneously. This is how a ‘peace of mind‘ is reached. Long lasting cognitive dissonance can lead to excruciating pain which becomes manifest in emotion, action or in the physical body.
Arguably, the most monumental occurrences of humans overcoming this phenomenon en masse in society came through the teachings of Christ, and later the subsequent Reformation of the Roman Catholic Church, which then lead to the Enlightenment period post 1500’s.
Every piece of electronic technology you encounter is a direct descendent of the Reformation of the Church and the Enlightenment period.
In our day and age, more and more minds have been noticing that "something isn’t working” and a knowing that we need “to do something different”. We and our institutions have become more and more challenged to overcome this societal Cognitive Dissonance.
Forget $Change$ we want Change! What happens when life is created?
It grows.
What happens when life dies?
It decomposes.
This is the interesting thing about transformation. It occurse either through life affirming processes, or through death affirming processes. For example, when you are alive and you feel hungry, you eat. When you are dead you do not eat, you get eaten by scavengers.
Here is a more subtle example : you allow yourself to cry (though you may resist at first) after you go through the “feeling” you notice it is life affirming. If you were to resist and suppress the feeling it may come out later as an emotion, perhaps as yelling at a loved one or drinking to excess. If you further suppress the emotion, it may later manifest as a dis-ease in the body and eventually even result in death. In the same way, wherever an institution can’t “feel” in order to affirm life, it is dead (or on its way there without definitive treatment).
Our Institutions
Do our existing institutions have the ability to understand and feel (empathize) how their actions affect the lives of Real People? Mostly not, the existing institutional models that have become applied globally (corporatocracy, bureacracy and to a large extend left/right democracy) both rely on people accepting inferiority and separation to a large degree.
How many of the sages of Earth history have reminded us that we are not separate, that we are connected to all? That we are children of the divine? The answer is ALL OF THEM - they all taught this. The saying “no one is an island“ applies more today than ever before.
Now, unless an institution has the ability to “feel” - which it must do through allowing its people the unencumbered free will to make decisions based in a knowing of their feelings - it will not be able to foster life affirming processes.
Institutions contain a HUGE amount of inertia. Some may change more quickly or slowly but it is critical to understand that once an institution has crossed the line between Life Affirming into Death Affirming. It can never go back. Ever. Just as it is for the human being them-self.
That which is dead will decay and decompose while that which is newly born will continue to grow. What happened back in 2012?
Just as in the era of Martin Luther and the Reformation, cognitive dissonance has been reaching a crescendo since 2012.
We all want our institutions to ”do something!” and yet we know what they are doing “isn’t working”. Just as Martin Luther’s critique of the Papal abuses of power in Rome lead to the Enlightenment Period - our position in space and time has reached a resonance with this harmonic tension again.
Since 2012 we have been here, but only a few knew enough to believe that we actually were.
Here is a question for you : which Ancient Calendar ended in the year 2012?
Did you answer “the Mayan Calendar”?
It is likely an answer most people would be able to give! And yet, few accept it as having any significance.
But what if you knew, the even more correct answer is : “all of the ancient calendars” … they all ended in 2012! Would you then believe something truly ended? And what is an ending but a beginning.
We humans have great difficulty accepting an ending, unless we also accept it as a beginning. We lack the definitions, the terms, the grammar of this collective new beginning, so are left to use old ideas to try to explain new concepts. That’s why it’s all so COMPLICATED! So, what’s the point? Where does it leave us?
Welcome to a fascinating time to be alive!
What happens when something dies? It decays and decomposes by the actions of the environment with help from decomposers.
Is this not an exact Metaphor for what appears to be happening to our society at the Institutional Level at this point in time?
It appears to be decaying - the decomosers of politics and busi-ness are rampantly chewing up the old institutional body and pooping it out!
Don’t large scientific, religious and state institutions look less and less like life affirming apparatuses and more like rotten cadavers that are just kinda stinky - rapidly being decomposed? A prime example is what has happened in our local Health Care System. Fourty dedicated Health Care workers brazenly cast out without pay by the very system which depends upon them to function.
And for what reason? They aren’t participating in the inferiority complex of the Institution?
And the Institution continues to endorse an "Off with their heads!” approach.
Alice falls down the rabbit hole and meets a Queen ? … "Wait who's story am I living in?” The first of a group of peers to notice the absurdity of the request of them and act differently are always falsely labeled Heretics! “Off with their heads” the Queen's oath takers cry, louder this time! Similarly, local Volunteer Firefighters have been cast out of a system which absolutely and completely relies on Volunteers to function. The decision to let go Volunteer Firefighters was first brought forth by John MacLean the Chief Administrative Officer of the CRD. He told the Free Press the CRD had been “thinking about Vaccine Mandates since the beginning of the pandemic”. HOLD THE PHONE. Since the beginning? Like since two weeks to flatten the curve? Since before a vaccine was even considered possible? Since before anyone knew anything about anything? Okey Doke! So he’s some how been planning it since the beginning. So entire rural communities are now living out the delusional fantasy of one man with a crystal ball? The community held it’s own town hall meeting with close to 60 people in attendance on a weekday afternoon. People wrote letters, called and rattled the chains of their local politicians. The Fire Chiefs asked the CRD for specific information. They were stonewalled. Eventually, Margo Wagner brought forth a proposal to delay the decision for 2 months to gather more data and the board of directors voted it down so the mandate could continue. These are Death Affirmations. They indicate the death process. And in the case of the CRD, it not only affirmed it but RE-AFFIRMED it.
A test-a-ment
For anyone who has been enduring the test-of-the-mind by actively witnessing global level events which have caused extreme levels of cognitive dissonance since around 2001; events are no longer a surprise, they are an obvious process.
Transformation moves through life or death. There are really only two options. And both are happening! We just happen to reject death and prefer to believe that it isnt a beautiful, marvelous fact of life. Without death, there could be no life. A Mystery tour: 2012 - 2020
Economic and geo-political events from 2012 to 2020 are a complete mystery to every sane 20th century economist on the planet. We saw the rise of Bitcoin. Simultaneously, the stock market never collapsed, there was a non-sensical institutional “recovery” after the 2008 fraud. It was like stasis at every institution. Everything stayed the same, despite the massive shifts in reality.
Corporate bodies perhaps without a pulse of life. Dead but hadn’t started decomposing yet. In hindsight it’s clear, 2012 was the moment in time when the institutional paradigm which relied on inferiority and division died. But it’s been preserved and attempts were made at life support.
Currently, it’s more like a Frankenstein effort. The zombification of our institutions, such that “the unwilling" may carry on in with their lives in an almost, but not quite, recognizable form. Anyone who is on the cutting edge of this transformation personally will tell you that :
a. it hurts b. “something new IS happening” c. get ready, because that “something new" is coming soon to a reality near you. The question is, when will the many be ready to let the zombified cadaver go?
When will we be ready collectively give it a memorial and bury it six feet under so that we can focus our efforts on caring for the new? On a united front?
What beauty might grow
What might grow from the ashes? How long can we cling to the life support and keep the zombified system going? From who and where is this Something New going to be revealed to each of the willing? The truth always lies somewhere in between polarities -collectively we will do both simultaneously. This has been my first contribution to The Village Voice of the South Cariboo!
Soothsaying. Story telling.
