Cody Gene was born and raised in Lone Butte. In his very early years he began his music theory with well known teacher Ginny Alexander (before he was even old enough for class!).
Even in the earliest of days Cody was playing his own original creations at the Festival of Arts. After a deeper education in sound engineering and music production, Gene Media Creative Studio was borne through many trials and iterations and early mornings dedicated to the process of inception. Late nights at home, early mornings, scheming at the Moose, deconstructing and reconstructing the idea with one of his mentors. Gene Media has now served the fledgling Music Scene in the South Cariboo since {2012}.
Musicians in the network recall the early days of hosting original performers at the Theatre. Songs about local historic icons such as “The Rayfield River Bridge“ and existentials like “Divide by Zero”.
From assisting production at festivals and hosting open mic nights at the old Pizza Joint in Lone Butte. The focus is always creating a space where folks can gather to perform in a caring, low pressure environment.
Times have flipped the world inside-out, but Gene Media is a hub for like-minded Original Musicians as ever before. It is a critical component of the network especially for new bands + projects and new comers to the area.
,*Originals Only*
Since the early days of performing originals at the Festival of Arts, it’s always been “Originals” for Cody.

“I have always believed, everyone has a songs in them, and it is my job to help them find them when they are ready to begin. The biggest challenge is letting people know it exists. My dream for the workshop is to create a hub that brings songwriters together.”
