I had the pleasure of participating in the first Art Hive hosted by Leah, Carrie and Jil at the brand new Starseeds Art Studio, which offers classes and workshops to help people discover their multidimensional creativity!
I was warmly greeted by the hosts, and our evening began with a blend of steeped herbal tea in teeny-tiny cups.
I was compelled to participate in Art Hive because I like to play with art and expression. It is something that had been left behind in my life until last year. I wanted to get out and play with other artists and engage in some creativity! It sounded like an interesting new idea.
Like any “first time” for a new group, the main challenge is showing up and breaking the ice before everyone can jump in! We did a funny activity first and got to know each other a bit. “What kind of Art Supply would you be if you could be one?” … that light hearted kinda thing.
We got to work right away after on some easy paint play called Soul Prints. We collectively produced what seemed like a metric ton of these and set them aside across every square inch of the work space available! Then we got going on some more intuitive chalk based drawing on cardstock. This was my personal favourite, I enjoyed getting lost in the process.
We spontaneously delved into an Art History book and discussed everything from the phenomenon of Art NFT’s, the Renaissance Period to Vangoug and ‘Art as a narrative in which can’t be changed by the winners of history’.
Permission to Play was our biggest ally and by the end we had decided to combine all of our works into a big pile to create more art from those pieces to demonstrate how something bigger emerges from the unique individual perspective into a bigger collaborative work.
Super thanks to the hosts! I look forward to playing and engaging more in the studio and with Art Hive.
